“Prom King” by Penny Wylder (review below)

Synopsis

He was the hot popular guy. I was the nerdy girl with a fantasy crush.
All of my childhood, I was invisible to Adam Carlisle. That was fine, because I was too shy, and too smart, to think I had a chance with the most popular guy in school.
Until someone crowned him prom king…
And me queen.
But it was only a cruel joke that ruined my self-esteem and broke my heart.
Ten years later and my friend begs me to attend our school reunion with her. I’m older, wiser, but still a nerd. This event is setting off my anxiety.
I want it to be over.
Then… I see him.
My prom king.
Adam is hotter than ever. But what really gets my attention?
He’s staring right at me.

What a great story. It’s heartwarming, tender, romantic and just all around a fun read. The story is very well written with characters that everyone can relate to from their own years in high school. Kudos to the author for a job well done.

Ollie was a nerd in High School that was bullied by part of the “it” crowd. She had an obvious crush on Adam, one of the most popular guys in school, which gave them fuel to embarrass her at every turn. When a bad trick is played on Ollie & Adam at the senior prom, Ollie is devastated and runs out of the room. That night left scars and still haunts her years later. Her best friend wants her to go the their 10 year highschool reunion and let them see the beautiful successful woman she has become. Reluctantly Ollie agrees.

On the other side of the coin, Adam has gone on to med school and is about to become a pediatric doctor. He doesn’t really want to go to the reunion but his dad tells him it would be a good place to be seen and forward his career. Reluctantly Adam attends.

What happens when Ollie and Adam see one another as well as those that partook in the cruel joke? Does history repeat itself or do truths come out that right some horrible wrongs. This is a wonderful story that I highly recommend. It’s heartfelt and just a joy to read. 2 Thumbs Up.
